Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Revell
Released: May 1, 2018
337 pages
About the Book:
A tornado has destroyed a small Minnesota community and among the missing are not only a group of students but PEAK Rescue team leader Chet King. Ty Remington will stop at nothing to rescue his mentor, not even when the girl he loved--and lost--walks back into his life. But Brette needs his help more than he knows, despite her stubborn determination to push him away. And when he gets a second chance, loving her just might cost him more than he can imagine.

A blogger for Vortex Storm Chasers, Brette Arnold didn't expect her adventures to land her in the same place as Ty, the guy who she walked--no, ran--from over a year ago. She had her reasons--good ones. The kind that tell her that falling for him again would only lead to heartache. But Ty isn't the kind of man to give up--not on the missing students, or on her.

Life and love hang in the balance in Susan May Warren's breathless story of holding on to hope during a deadly summer of storms.

My Rating & Thoughts:    🌟 🌟 🌟 ðŸŒŸ ðŸŒŸ    (5 stars)

Wow! So many emotions experienced throughout this one. Previous to this story, Ty had usually been the guy in the background, there when people need him but never the focus. That changes in this book, we now get the chance to really get to know him and I have to say I fell in love with him quickly. He is unable to see himself how others see him, he feels like he doesn’t have much to contribute to the PEAK team, but this is so not true. Ty is a helper; he cannot stop himself from helping those around him no matter the cost to himself. His unselfishness, his faith and his wisdom are endearing.

Once again the PEAK team leaves Montana to search for Chet in Minnesota when he goes missing after a tornado hits the area. Once they arrive in town they learn a group of students are missing as well and of course pitch in to help find them. It is here that Brette and Ty are reunited after 18 months apart. Brette is working on a storm chasing team and the team has just arrived in town after realizing that the tornado they have been following is headed straight for a co-workers hometown.

Circumstances in Brette’s life caused her to run away from Ty 18 months ago but now that they are reunited, her fears keep her from allowing Ty back into her life. She is concerned only heartache will follow if she lets down her walls. Ty feels Brette is the perfect match for him and is determined to break down the barrier she has put up; he refuses to give up on her. Both Ty and Brette are fighters; will this work for them or against them? I loved these two and felt they brought out the best in each other. When one struggled the other was there to support them and help them see themselves differently.

The second main storyline is that of Ben and Kacey, who were first featured in book 1 - Wild Montana Skies. Now we get to spend some one on one time with them and find out how they are doing. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I won’t say much, but their storyline took me through so many emotions. It showed that life isn’t easy and bumps in the road happen, this really gave the story a realistic feeling.

The descriptions made me feel like I was seeing exactly what the characters were seeing. The destruction that the tornado has caused, the dangers encountered while trying to rescue others, all touched me and had me in tears at various points throughout.

I did not like that this books ends with a cliff-hanger, (I was already anticipating the next book because I can’t wait for more of Jess), but now I am anxiously anticipating the next in hopes that my friends are going to be safe. If you haven’t read any of this series yet, I highly recommend starting from the beginning. If you have read any of the previous books, know that this one is just as good as the others. Ms. Warren knows how to create characters you want to get to know and spend time with.

(I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell through NetGalley.
