Reign of Error by Christy Barritt

Released: Feb. 28, 2017
187 pages
Series: Worst Detective Ever # 2

About the Book:

Sometimes in life, you just want to yell “Take two!”

When a Polar Plunge goes terribly wrong and someone dies in the icy water, former TV detective Joey Darling wants nothing to do with subsequent investigation. But when her picture is found in the dead man’s wallet and witnesses place her as the last person seen with the man, she realizes she’s been cast in a role she never wanted: suspect.

Joey makes the dramatic mistake of challenging the killer on camera, and now it’s a race to find the bad guy before he finds her. Danger abounds and suspects are harder to find than the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island. But when Joey finds a connection with this case and the disappearance of her father, she knows there’s no backing out.

As hard as Joey tries to be like her super detective alter ego, the more things go wrong. Will Joey figure this one out? Or will her reign of error continue?

My Rating & Thoughts:   🌟 πŸŒŸ 🌟 (3 stars)

This is book two of the Worst Detective Ever Series. Joey is continuing to try to begin a new life in Outer Banks and continue the search for her father. I did struggle with caring about trying to solve the murder that happened at the beginning of the book. I cared more about the ongoing story of trying to figure out what happened to Joey’s father and the relationship between Joey and Jackson. I would like to see the two of them together, I just don’t trust Zane. But Joey gets dragged into the murder investigation as the victim has her picture in his pocket, and then she foolishly challenges the culprit on the tv. The investigation reveals clues to her father’s disappearance so she can’t back away now. There were entertaining moments as Joey gets herself into some sticky situations. Moments that made me laugh out loud and moments that made me groan. I do not understand the motive of the fan-stalkers, why are they trying to push Joey into being Raven (her former tv personality)? Are they delusional? And what did happen to her father and where is he? I now patiently wait for the next book to hopefully provide some answers to my inquiries.
(I received this book free from the Ms. Barritt but the opinions expressed here are completely my own.)
